I agree about the pizza in the northeastern part of the USA. There is absolutely nothing like it - the best pizza anywhere. I always have some when I am in that part of the country.

Too bad I live in the midwest...and not crazy southern California anymore or I'd think the pizza idea is a great thing to pursue.

I'm glad you enjoyed our nation's capital! I totally agree, Air and Space Museum is the way to go (and I've been to a lot of them being born and raised in the D.C. area). I don't know if you and your family would be into this, but next time you're here I highly recommend the Newseum (museum of news) - it has all these high-tech, interactive exhibits and goes way back to the beginning of news right up to the present. You have to pay to go in, but in my opinion totally worth it!

Complete Pizza Snob from NY HERE! Oh and the Cross Bronx might actually be the worst stretch of 10 miles (yup it is only 10 miles long) EVER CREATED ON EARTH!

Next time you are through this way you have to spend time in NYC

Ahh, Dunkin Donuts, the memories! You're right, Starbucks doesn't even come close. But you should have spent a little more time in New Yawk.

Since I grew up in New York State, lived in Boston for 9 years, and most of my family lived in CT at one time or another, this seems very familiar. I've never been to the Peabody Museum though because my father grew up in East Haven and he refuses to go back there! Maybe it's the memory of 5 kids to a bedroom. ;)

It's totally true about the rudeness. I have become very acculturated to Texas where it's more laid back and there's a whole politeness ritual to things. When I used to visit my husband's folks in the Boston area, I had to adopt an aggressive stance or else people would actually push me out of the way. One guy burned my purse with his cigarette and glared at ME for getting in his way.

As a kid, I liked the Smithsonian especially the freeze dried ice cream. My favorite thing in DC was the FBI tour, although I don't think they had a spy museum then.

@Mom: We did have a lot of fun, Mom! :-)
@Spedie: I'm tellin' ya, it is a guaranteed moneymaker if done correctly!
@Kimberly: Thanks for the tip! I'll be sure to put it on the itinerary when we go back. :-)
@Evan: I really do want to visit NYC up close one day! And your pizza snobbery is well-justified! I promise to add it to my itinerary next time I visit the family in CT.
@Susan: I know, Susan. Although I was on the Cross Bronx for so long I felt like I had spent an entire weekend there. LOL
@Jennifer: Your dad is from East Haven, eh? Well, I guess that means we're practically related then! :-)
I didn't realize the FBI gave a tour until I heard about it on the tour bus - but by then it was too late to go, since we were leaving town the next morning. I will be checking it out next time. There is absolutely NO WAY you can see everything in DC in one trip - there is just WAYYYY to much to do. That is, unless you plan to stick around town for four weeks. (And I'm not kidding about that!)

Loved reliving your vacation with you. I think Nina was right; it was a great vacation.

I agree with you about the traffic. San Diego traffic is nothing compared to LA and LA is nothing compared to East Coast.

Len, I appreciate you writing such a long and detailed holiday roundup entirely to make me feel guilty for not writing your guest post.

Apologies. I've not even been keeping up with work! A combination of the summer and the World Cup.

But I have it *half written*. I'll finish it, really!

Welcome home.

@Bucksome: We did have a great time, Boomer! There will be lots of good memories from this one. I'm already looking forward to next year's trip - we're heading back to Hawaii and I can't wait!
@Monevator: No worries, mate! :-) I hope you are enjoying your summer and the World Cup. Too bad both of our teams didn't make it to the quarterfinals.
