Dang, can’t believe almost 20% of gov’t employees make over 6 figures! Big balling! That’s like 15 percentage points more than the general working public!

@Sam: Thank you! To answer your question, the agenda is to pander to the National Organization of (Liberal) Women, of course, a group that still clamors for an equal rights amendment to the US Constitution on the premise that “Equality in pay… will remain an elusive dream without a guarantee of equality in the U.S. Constitution.” (That’s from their own website.) It is not in NOW’s best interest if the data show that men and woman ARE getting equal pay for equal work.

It’s amazing the government still hasn’t realized they are broke. California has another $21B budget shortfall and they can’t raise taxes on people who are out of work and losing their homes. Yet, they are paying pensions as high as $600K per year to some former politicians. Some govenment employees switch jobs and then collect two or three pensions.

I know someone who retired from Caltrans and he told me he is living way better now that he is retired than when he worked. This can’t go on forver. At some point, the Government is going to have to switch to 401Ks.

@Bret: I know a police officer who is retiring at age 50 at 90% of his current salary. That is completely ridiculous and absolutely unsustainable. The amount of money that he will collect is mind boggling. If the companies in private sector had those kind of pensions they’d be insolvent in no time. At least your friend from CalTrans is honest about it.
